Coming to School
Accessing and using the school site
Morning Gate Opening:
Newton Lang Wraparound provision: The boundary will remain closed for early access and Newton Lang will collect pupils from Banner Farm Road from 7am. Please use the telephone number on the sign on the gate for collection.
Before School Clubs by external providers: Please use the gate at the top of the car park as normal- the club leader will be waiting from 7:55am and will close the gate at 8:00am to start the club. I am aware that some children attend this by themselves and so it is important to be prompt. This means that the top gate to the school will remain closed to all after this time.
For school-led sports clubs: As above but Mr Hume will wait for the children by the gate at the top of the car park from 7.55 am and will close the gate at 8.00 am to start the club.
Main school opening: Banner Farm Road, Claremont Road and Cambridge Gardens. These gates will open at 8:45am as normal but will now close at 9am. After 9am the exit from the school will be via the Banner Farm Road entrance only. Banner Farm Road will close at 8:55am as normal to support registration. Parents and children should not enter the school site before 8.45am apart from the above reasons.
After School Gate Opening:
Main school opening: Banner Farm Road, Claremont Road and Cambridge Gardens. These gates will open at 3:15pm as normal but now all will close at 3:45pm. After 3:45pm the exit from the school will be via the Banner Farm Road entrance only. However, we ask parents not to enter the school grounds or playgrounds until 3.20pm at the earliest as lessons can still be in progress, particularly when outdoor PE lessons are taking place.
Collection from after school clubs: Club leaders will bring the children to the Banner Farm Road gate for collection when the club is finished. It is important that parents do not drive up to the school for collection or turn in the area at the top of Banner Farm Road during these times when families will be gathering to collect. This timing may be reviewed in the Autumn Term to help families as we enter darker nights and wetter weather.
Newton Lang Wraparound provision: The boundary will remain closed for entry to the school site after 3:45pm and Newton Lang will walk pupils to Banner Farm Road up to 6:30pm. Please use the telephone number on the sign on the gate for collection.
During the course of the school day: When you arrive at the school, please use the buzzer on the front gate (on Banner Farm Road) and speak to the School Office to gain entry.
When entering/exiting the school grounds from Banner Farm Road on foot, please DO NOT use the vehicle gate access.
Cambridge Gardens is a private road and we use it at the residents' discretion. Please do not drive or park along this road at any time. If you are walking along this road, please respect the residents' property and privacy.
We ask parents NOT to drive up Banner Farm Road, particularly at the start and the end of the school day. It is a very narrow dead end road, with very little space to turn. Children have to use and cross the road and any additional traffic increases the chances of there being a serious accident involving a child.
The school car park is for staff use ONLY.
If you are driving to school, please park safely on Farmcombe Road and walk your child the rest of the way. However, we do encourage parents to walk to school whenever possible.
Children are allowed to walk unaccompanied to and from school from Year 4 onward. Please complete the Home Time Arrangements form and submit to the class teacher/school office if you want your child to do this.
Pupils and pre-school children are not allowed to play on the playgrounds or school site before or after school. Please discourage your children from climbing on fences, walls, railings or other equipment before and after school.
Scooters and bicycles must be left in the designated areas.
Dogs are not allowed to be walked or carried onto the school site.
THE SCHOOL DAY
The school opens at 8.45am and children are not allowed on site without a parent or guardian before this time. Children should be in their classroom by 8.55am as morning registration is taken at 8.55am.
Break time for all years is 10.30 to 10.50am and children are allowed to bring in a fruit snack for morning break.
Reception and KS1 children have lunch from 12.00-1.00pm and KS2 children from 12.30-1.30pm.
Reception and KS1 children have an afternoon break from 2.15-2.30pm.
Pupils finish school at 3.25pm. Parents should notify the office before midday if there is a change to the normal pick-up arrangements. This is to ensure teachers have time to check their messages before afternoon lessons start. Please complete the Home Time arrangements form for any long term changes. If you are going to be late collecting your child, please either make alternative arrangements for someone else to collect or call the office as soon as possible.
Children are at school for 32.5 hours a week in-line with DfE guidelines. This does not include before or after school extra-curricular activities but does include breaks and lunchtimes.
