Governors
Welcome from the Chair of Governors
Having experienced Claremont first hand as a parent, I know how lucky we all are to be part of such a great school community.
I have been on the Governing Body for over 3 years, initially as a Co opted Governor and now a Local Authority Governor. For nearly 30 years, I have worked as a local GP to many families in our community.
As Governors at Claremont, we work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership team. The Governors are all volunteers with varied skill bases and interests which gives expertise across the committees including Personnel, Teaching and Learning and Resources. We work as a team supporting the staff in a positive way and valuing their expertise, commitment and dedication.
Claremont has an extraordinary team of staff who daily go above and beyond aiming for the highest achievements both emotionally, socially and educationally for our pupils in a calm, happy and safe environment.
We visit the school regularly as part of our monitoring, having link governors for main subject areas along with leads in health and safety, finance, safeguarding and SEND. We have regular committee and full governing body meetings and discuss how to improve children’s outcomes and oversee all school data and policies. We are a sounding board for ideas and support the ethos of the school.
We have strategic oversight and hold the Headteacher to account for educational performance, pupil outcomes and staff performance management. The Governors also have financial oversight ensuring resources are effectively used and managed.
As Chair of Governors, I am very proud of Claremont and our fantastic team of staff and Governors and hope, with the parents’ support we can all continue to play our parts in each child’s learning journey, wellbeing and personal development in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
With best wishes for a very happy time at Claremont.

Here at Claremont, we’re looking for volunteers to join our governor team.
We currently have vacancies for co-opted governors and are looking to our local community for volunteers who can bring fresh perspectives, skills and experience to help shape our school and support the staff and leadership as they educate our children.
What we're looking for:
- Commitment to improving outcomes for children
- Good interpersonal skills and willingness to learn
- Time to attend meetings and occasional school visits
As a governor, you would be part of board-level strategic decision-making, experience which could help your career too. Whether you have expertise in finance, HR, law, business, or simply a passion for education and community, we'd love to hear from you.
Interested? Contact Jane Mullis, Clerk to Governors, via the Contact Us page, to arrange an informal chat about how you can contribute to our school community.
